About Illustrious Sound
From the author and editor
Welcome, and thanks for stopping by.
Illustrious Sound is a small, independently published online magazine created for home studio enthusiasts—especially those just starting out, figuring things out, or simply enjoying the process of making music at home. Whether you’re a curious student, a weekend tinkerer, or someone rediscovering music later in life, this space is for you.
This isn’t a gear review site or a step-by-step how-to blog. Instead, it’s a casual magazine—built to share the ups and downs, discoveries and frustrations, little puzzles and big wins that come with creating music in your own space. It’s here to remind you that you’re not alone in the process, and that part of the fun is the figuring-it-out part.
Inside you’ll find short reads on studio life, reflections on creative routines, resources for students, and the occasional deep dive into tools or techniques. Some of these pieces are pulled straight from my teaching studio, others are inspired by conversations with students, or things I’ve had to troubleshoot myself.
While I’m a full-time music educator and Royal Conservatory of Music–certified teacher, Illustrious Sound isn’t about me—it’s about you and your journey. This site exists to encourage exploration, support learning, and share the joy of making music at home, no matter where you are in your musical path.
Most posts are later collected into downloadable PDF issues, available in the Magazine Rack. These compilations help keep the site organized and serve as a resource archive for students and readers alike.
So whether you’re patching cables, adjusting mic placement, or just starting your first project in a DAW—welcome. I hope you find something here that makes your next session a little smoother, or a little more fun.
